RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Body
WHEREAS, September is recognized internationally as Childhood Cancer Awareness month, with gold ribbons a symbol of hope for a cure; and
WHEREAS, in the United States, almost 13,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer each year, and cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 15; and
WHEREAS, though great strides have been made worldwide in research, the diagnosis of childhood cancer is still a terrifying reality for too many families; and
WHEREAS, the month of September was chosen to put a spotlight on the types of cancer that largely affect children and to help raise funds for research and family support; and
WHEREAS, during the month of September, people wear gold ribbons and buildings around the world are lit up with gold lights to raise awareness and generate support for those battling with childhood cancers; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, hereby recognize September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and urge our fellow citizens to take note of, and to participate in, the special activities arranged in observance of this event; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Records of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
