RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago
Body
WHEREAS, in 1910, a group of Irish-Americans formed a group called the Red Branch Knights (named for an heroic band of ancient Celtic warriors) to help promote a more responsible image of Irish in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, the group later changed their name to the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, for more than 100 years, the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago has made charitable contributions to worthy causes in the Chicago area, including providing scholarships for students of Irish heritage; and
WHEREAS, the club provides varied cultural activities for members and has hosted many illustrious guests over its history; and
WHEREAS, the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago has helped weave the political, economic and social fabric of Chicago, while honoring the Club founders' desire to "build up a spirit among the people of Irish descent here, of dignity, of cultural activities"; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby recognize the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Peggy O'Bryan Lombardo, President of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago.
