MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners extending sympathy and condolences to the family of Bunion Davis, Jr.
Body
WHEREAS, Bunion Davis, Jr. was born February 27, 1918 in Bashi, Alabama to Salone Fountain Davis and Bunion Davis, Sr., the fourth of their five children; and
 
WHEREAS, Bunion's parents instilled in him a strong value system, and he confessed hope in Christ at an early age at Macedonia M.B. Church in Sunflower County, Mississippi; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1950, Bunion joined Nugent Chapel M.B. Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher under the leadership of Reverend J.A. Alexander until the church closed; and
WHEREAS, Bunion then served as a deacon at Seven Star M.B. Church under the leadership of Reverend J.A. Brisby and also attended the New Stone Church in Benoit, Mississippi where he sang gospel with B.B. King; and
WHEREAS, on September 9, 1939 Bunion married his "beauty queen," Annie Lue Mitchell and the couple were blessed with twelve children; and
WHEREAS, a hard worker all his life, Bunion worked for 38 years at the Redmon Funeral Home, served as a Title I worker at Nugent Center School, a deputy sheriff, a custodian for the Bank of Benoit and Bostick Brothers Serving Station and was also one of the first African-Americans to own and operate his own Head Start bus; and
WHEREAS, Bunion was a very loyal and kind-hearted husband, father and friend and was very active in his community, where he was known to help anyone in need, earning the respect of everyone who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Bunion Davis, Jr. passed from this life on April 29, 2015, joining his wife, Annie L. Davis, his daughter Debra and his son Richard Davis, Sr., who preceded him in death; and
WHEREAS, Bunion leaves to cherish his memory his sons Bunion Davis, III, Robert, Walter (Pearlie) and Devonte; daughters Deborah (Walter) Scott, Barbara (Dewey) Grooves, Katie Craig, Fannie (Michael) Thompson, Jessilina (Lonnie) Johnson, Pauline Davis and Mary Ingram; his brother L.C. Davis; his nieces Marion (Willie) Anderson, Essie Waggoner, Minnie Williams, Denise (Alfred) Harper and Lula King; his nephew Booker (Alfreda) Langston; 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; special daughter Imogene Jordon Smith; special son and caregiver James Ware; Christopher Lee, a very loving caregiver; and a host of other friends and relatives; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Bunion Davis, Jr.; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Bunion Davis, Jr.
