RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF NOVEMBER 5, 2015

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Chicago Artists Month and the Cycle P15 Art Project (As Revised)

Body

 

WHEREAS, Chicago Artists Month (CAM) is an initiative of the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events that showcases the work of Chicago’s independent artists and arts organizations; and

 

WHEREAS, Chicago Artists Month prioritizes experimental and innovative projects, along with new artistic work, collaborative work and projects that seek to increase public access to - and engagement in - high-quality arts activities and events; and

 

WHEREAS, Chicago Artists Month 2015 is being celebrated from October 1st through November 15th, 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, Cycle P15 will explore and celebrate the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s innovative and imminent phosphorus-recovery program at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant as part of Chicago Artists Month 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s phosphorus-recovery system at Stickney Water Reclamation Plant will significantly lower the concentration of phosphorus in the District’s effluent, and make a material contribution to the intelligent reuse of an important resource that is being depleted in the world; and

 

WHEREAS, Cycle P15 is a collaborative arts project among artist Annette Barbier and the participants in the IntuiTeens program at Intuit: the Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art; and

 

WHEREAS, artist and art educator Adrienne Ciskey and project coordinator Christine Esposito have collaborated with Annette Barbier and the IntuiTeens, with concept consulting by artist Eden Ünlüata-Foley, in teaching them how scientific information can be used in the creation of art; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) has offered in-kind support to Cycle P15 by sending an MWRD scientist to educate the IntuiTeens about phosphorus, phosphorus recovery and the MWRD’s own efforts to innovate in the field of phosphorus recovery; and

 

WHEREAS, the artwork resulting from Cycle P15 will be an interactive game using augmented reality to foster public awareness and individual engagement; and

 

WHEREAS, Cycle P15 will be on view in the lobby of the MWRD’s Main Office Building Annex at 111 East Erie Street from November 2nd through November 13th, 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cycle P15 augmented-reality game event will take place in the lobby of the MWRD’s Main Office Building Annex at 111 East Erie Street from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on November 13th; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby recognize Cycle P15 as a participant in Chicago Artists Month, and encourage our fellow citizens to take note of, and to participate in, the Cycle P15 display and the other activities associated with it; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
