RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of the Village of Franklin Park’s Natural Lawn Care Policy
Body
WHEREAS, the Village of Franklin Park, Cook County, Illinois under the leadership of Village President Barrett F. Pedersen is committed to natural lawn care on all Village-owned properties; and
WHEREAS, public health and environmental protection are necessary to promote the general well-being and welfare of people, livelihoods and ecosystems; and
WHEREAS, the concept of sustainability compels communities to balance concern for the economic, environmental and social viability of a community by taking a systematic, holistic and comprehensive approach to its operations; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Franklin Park recognizes that pesticides are linked to a variety of known adverse health outcomes in people as well as environmental impacts to water, soil, air, and wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Franklin Park recognizes that natural lawn care focuses on restoring balance to the soil system, including nutrients that make a lawn healthy; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Franklin Park seeks to serve as a model to the public for their natural lawn care practices and is committed to educating and encouraging the general public and private sector about such practices; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Franklin Park was recognized for its commitment to pesticide reduction and utilization of natural lawn care techniques on all its properties by the Midwest Pesticide Action Center in 2013.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, hereby recognize the Village of Franklin Park and Village President Barrett F. Pedersen for the Village’s commitment to the health and welfare of their residents and the environment by utilizing natural lawn care on all Village-owned properties and for encouraging and educating the general public and private sector about natural lawn care techniques; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the Village of Franklin Park and Village President Barrett F. Pedersen.
