Body
Dear Sir:
On March 17, 2011, the District’s Board of Commissioners authorized a five (5) year permit to the United States Geological Survey (“USGS”) to install, operate, monitor, maintain, repair, and remove a stream gaging station near the Summit Conduit on approximately five (5) square feet of District real estate near Joliet Road and west of Lawndale Avenue in Summit, Illinois on Main Channel Parcel 35.07. The permit expires on February 28, 2016.
The purpose of the gaging station is for the Army Corps of Engineers to monitor the stream flow and water quality through the Summit Conduit into the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. USGS is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the equipment.
The District’s technical departments have reviewed the request and have no objections to issuing a new five (5) year permit to USGS provided that District facilities are protected and 24-hour access is maintained. It is recommended that the permit be issued for a nominal fee of $10.00 as is customary for permits with governmental agencies that use District property for public purposes.
It is requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and approve the issuance of a five (5) year permit to the United States Geological Survey to continue to operate, maintain, repair, and remove a stream gaging station near the Summit Conduit on approximately five (5) square feet of District real estate located near Joliet Road and west of Lawndale Avenue in Summit, Illinois, on Main Channel Parcel 35.07. Consideration shall be a nominal fee of $10.00.
It is also requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and direct the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and the Clerk to execute the permit agreement after it is approved by the General Counsel as to form and legality.
Requested, Ronald M. Hill, General Counsel, RMH:STM:BEB:vp
Recommended, David St. Pierre, Executive Director
Respectfully Submitted, Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, Chairman, Committee on Real Estate Development
