RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF MAY 5, 2016

 

Title

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Joan Kadlec for 50 years of service to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana

Body

 

WHEREAS, Joan Kadlec is a Lifetime Member of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America; and

 

WHEREAS, for 50 years, Joan has served the Girl Scouts in many capacities: as troop leader, service unit coordinator, leader trainer, trainer of trainers, delegate from the neighborhood service unit to the council, fall product sale coordinator and cookie sale coordinator; and

 

WHEREAS, Joan has also served on numerous committees and task forces at the council level and has served as a representative at the Girl Scouts of the United States of America’s National Conventions; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2012, Joan was inducted into the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana Council’s Hall of Fame, which was created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scout Movement in the United States in 1912; and

 

WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts of the United States of America have honored Joan with two of its highest recognitions: the Thanks Badge in 1989 and the Thanks Badge II in 1991; and

 

WHEREAS, Joan has twice visited the home of Juliette Gordon Low, the Founder of the Girl Scouts in the United States, which is a National Historic Landmark in Savannah, Georgia; and

 

WHEREAS, Joan has also traveled to Pax Lodge in London and Our Chalet in Adelboden, Switzerland, which are two of the World Centres of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts; and

 

WHEREAS, over the years, Joan has also participated in a national training program at the Girl Scouts of the United States of America’s Edith Macy Conference Center in New York State; and

 

WHEREAS, besides serving as troop leader for two of her daughters, Joan has also been active with the local Boy Scout organization with her sons; and

 

WHEREAS, Joan still participates as a consultant to the Edgebrook, Sauganash and Wildwood neighborhoods’ Girl Scout leaders and troops, especially since one of her granddaughters is a member of a 7th grade Girl Scout Troop at St. Mary of the Woods Parish; and

 

WHEREAS, Joan Kadlec is considered an invaluable asset to the Girl Scout Movement on the national, council and local community levels and her dedicated commitment has positively affected the lives of hundreds of Girl Scouts; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby recognize Joan Kadlec for her 50 years of service to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Joan Kadlec.
