RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk
Body
WHEREAS, in the year 2000, Carol Moriarty, Beverly resident and breast cancer survivor, founded the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk with the help of her sister, Nancy Mulcahy and her friend, Lisa O’Brien; and
WHEREAS, the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk is a 3-mile walk held annually on Mother’s Day through the Beverly neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the walk benefits the Cancer Center, the Comprehensive Breast Health Center and the Mammography Department at Little Company of Mary Hospital, allowing the hospital to provide state-of-the-art treatment and services to breast cancer patients and their families; and
WHEREAS, walkers have raised funds allowing for the expansion of free integrative therapy programs for cancer patients, the purchase of Little Company of Mary’s two digital mammography systems, the implementation of clinical trials and the addition of a breast nurse navigator and research coordinator to the hospital’s team, who will exclusively assist all of the hospital’s breast cancer patients from diagnosis through survivorship; and
WHEREAS, over the past 16 years, the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk has raised over $4.5 million and has positively impacted the lives of countless breast cancer patients and their families; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby recognize the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
