RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF DECEMBER 15, 2016

Title

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing the water conservation pilot program with Sloan Valve Company (As Revised)

Body

WHEREAS, Sloan Valve Company, a manufacturer specializing in plumbing valves and fixtures, has donated 15 hybrid urinals for a water conservation pilot program at the District’s main headquarters; and

WHEREAS, the urinals use technology to allow the fixtures to flush one time every 72 hours, saving 39,000 gallons of water per unit annually; and

WHEREAS, the Sierra Club and the Friends of the Chicago River support this public/private partnership, noting the importance of water conservation in protecting clean water and reducing flooding and pollution to the river; and

WHEREAS, the urinals will be installed by District Local 130 Plumbers this January, making the District the first unit of local government in Cook County to utilize the technology; and

WHEREAS, the District is hoping that the success of the pilot program will encourage use of the hybrid urinal in businesses and government facilities throughout the county, which would have a dramatic effect on the 1.4 billion gallons of water treated per day at their seven water reclamation treatment plants; and

WHEREAS, the MWRD and Sloan Valve Company are both members of U.S. EPA WaterSense, a partnership program designed to enhance the market for water-efficient products and services by making it easier for consumers and others to find products that use less water; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the District is to protect the quality of the water supply source, improve the quality of water in watercourses in its service area, protect businesses and homes from flood damages, and manage water as a vital resource, and projects like the water conservation pilot program can help further this mission; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby recognize the water conservation pilot program with Sloan Valve Company; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
