COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY

Mr. David St. Pierre, Executive Director

Title

Authority to settle the Workers’ Compensation Claim of George Schipma vs. MWRDGC, Claim 16 WC 23317, Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC), in the sum of $47,767.66, Account 901-30000-601090

Body

Dear Sir:

George Schipma was a Pipefitter at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. On December 17, 2015, he sustained an injury to his left shoulder. Mr. Schipma was initially seen by the doctor at the industrial medical clinic on December 17, 2015. The employee was disabled from work effective January 13, 2016. He underwent a procedure on his left shoulder on January 27, 2016. Following his surgical procedure the employee underwent a course of physical therapy. He was able to return to work on May 9, 2016. Mr. Schipma retired from the District on August 31, 2016.

Mr. Schipma was paid a total of $20,597.58 which represents 16.60 weeks of lost time benefits.

Mr. Schipma filed an Application of Adjustment of Claim with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through his counsel. Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this case can now be settled for $47,767.66, representing approximately 12.65% loss of use of the person as a whole. This settlement will close out future lost time benefits, as well as any future medical benefits associated with this injury.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and she be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Beverly K. Sanders, Director of Human Resources, BKS:RAJ:RG

Respectfully Submitted, Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, Chairman Committee on Judiciary
