TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF OCTOBER 19, 2017
COMMITTEE ON LABOR AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
Mr. David St. Pierre, Executive Director
Title
Authority to extend until November 2, 2017, the terms of the collective bargaining agreements between the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and 1) the Building Trades Coalition; and 2) International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 700
Body
Dear Sir:
On June 30, 2017, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District’s collective bargaining agreements with the following two bargaining units expired: 1) the Building Trades Coalition; and 2) International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 700.
Before, and again after, the agreements expired, the authorized representatives of both bargaining units signed written extensions whereby they agreed, on behalf of the unions, to extend the terms and conditions of the existing agreements to a date specified in the extensions. Based on the most recent extensions submitted to the District, they seek to extend those terms until November 2, 2017.
Negotiations between the District and these unions have concluded and resulted in tentative agreements with both bargaining units. Final contract language for these agreements is being prepared and is under review by the District and the unions, and in some cases, subject to ratification by the union membership. It is anticipated that the two successor agreements will be placed on the agenda and submitted to the Board of Commissioners for approval at the November 2, 2017 Board Meeting.
It is therefore requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it approve extending the terms and conditions of these existing agreements until November 2, 2017.
Requested, Beverly K. Sanders, Director of Human Resources
Recommended, David St. Pierre, Executive Director
Respectfully Submitted, Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, Chairman Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations
Disposition of this agenda item will be documented in the official Regular Board Meeting Minutes of the Board of Commissioners for October 19, 2017
