MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF APRIL 2, 2009

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners extending sympathy and condolences to the family of Mrs. Elizabeth Bocanegra

Body

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Elizabeth Bocanegra passed from this life on February 2, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra was born in to Trinidad Guevara and Carmen Campos on July 7, 1950 as one of fifteen children; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra graduated from college in Mexico, receiving a degree in accounting and teaching; and 

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra taught grammar school for many years; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra married her husband of 32 years, Alberto Bocanegra, and moved to Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra was a leading community activist, championing immigration rights in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra worked with her good friend Miguel Centeno to open a number of community centers including el Hogar del Nino, El Centro de la Causa, and Casa Aztlan; and

 

WHEREAS Elizabeth Bocanegra worked very hard to help create a Spanish language mass at Immaculate Conception, which today draws thousands of Latinos every year for Sunday Spanish mass; and 

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra gave birth to Alberto Bocanegra and through her deep faith in God, overcame medical fears to give birth to Sergio Bocanegra; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra supported her family by working full time as a manufacturing company supervisor while also taking care of her children at home and donating time to El Progresso Latino, teaching adult literacy classes in Spanish; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bocanegra is remembered as a community activist and as a smart, determined, loving woman and wonderful mother; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Elizabeth Bocanegra; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Elizabeth Bocanegra.
