Dear Sir:

 

Illinois Marine Towing, Inc. (“IMT”) leases 14.7 acres of District real estate, including a barge slip, located at 16700 Des Plaines River Road in Lemont, Illinois; Main Channel Parcel 22.02 under a 39-year lease that commenced September 1, 2005, and expires August 31, 2044.  The lease is for the purpose of barge fleeting, cleaning, and repair.  IMT’s current annual rent is $675,668.44.

 

IMT has requested to amend its lease to allow the additional use of constructing and maintaining dockside crew quarters.  The crew quarters will be established inside an existing building located onsite that IMT will refurbish, and will provide temporary living quarters for IMT employees who are in between tow boat shifts.  Each shift typically consists of 2 pilots and 4 deck hands.

 

The District’s technical departments have reviewed IMT’s request and have no objections thereto.

 

It is requested that the Acting Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize an amendment to the lease agreement dated June 16, 2005, between the District and Illinois Marine Towing, Inc. on 14.7 acres of District real estate located at 16700 Des Plaines River Road in Lemont, Illinois; Main Channel Parcel 22.02 to allow an additional use of maintaining dockside crew quarters.  Consideration shall be a $5,000.00 document preparation fee.

 

It is also requested that the Acting Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and direct the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and the Clerk to execute the lease amendment after it has been approved by the General Counsel as to form and legality.
