Body

Dear Sir:

James Radomski is a Police Officer at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. On December 21, 2016, he sustained injuries to his left leg after falling down wet stairs while on duty. Officer Radomski was initially seen in the emergency room at McNeal Hospital on December 21, 2016. It was determined that he sustained a serious injury to his left leg. He was disabled from work effective December 22, 2016 and he underwent his first surgery on his left leg on December 22, 2016. He underwent a second surgical procedure on his left leg on May 11, 2017. A third procedure on his left leg was performed on May 26, 2017. He returned to work on August 23, 2017, but was disabled again effective August 29, 2017 before returning on August 30, 2017.

Officer Radomski was disabled again on October 27, 2017. He underwent a fourth and final procedure on his left leg on November 6, 2017. He returned to work on November 22, 2017.

The employee received Police Duty Disability benefits during the lost time missed from work representing a total of 38.60 weeks.

Officer Radomski filed an Application of Adjustment of Claim with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through his counsel. Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this case can now be settled for a total of $49,999.11, representing approximately 30% loss of use of the left leg. This settlement will close out future lost time and medical benefits associated with this injury.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and she be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Beverly K. Sanders, Director of Human Resources, BKS:RAJ:RG

Respectfully Submitted, Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, Chairman Committee on Judiciary
