Dear Sir:
Barbara McGowan is an elected official currently serving as Vice President of the District’s Board of Commissioners. On June 15, 2017, she sustained injuries to her low back, left hip, and left ankle when she tripped over some cords sticking out from her desk in the Board Room within the Main Office Building (MOB). She reached out with her left hand to brace her fall into the desk. She was initially seen at the Northwestern Emergency Department later that day. The x-rays taken were negative for any fractures. The Commissioner’s treatment consisted of extensive physical therapy and medications.
Commissioner McGowan did not lose any time from work as a result of this injury and no indemnity benefits were paid.
Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this Pro-Se case can be settled for $19,000.00, representing 5% loss of use of the left leg and approximately 2.7521% loss of use of the person as a whole. This settlement will close out any future lost time benefits as well as any future medical benefits associated with these injuries.
The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and she be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.
