Mr. David St. Pierre, Executive Director

Authority to issue a 5-year permit to NeighborSpace for approximately 212 linear feet of District real estate along the east bank of the north branch of the Chicago River at Berteau Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, for continued riverbank management and restoration. Body
Dear Sir:
NeighborSpace, a not-for-profit corporation established in 1996, funded and supported in part by the City of Chicago, the Chicago Park District, and the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, has requested renewal of its current 5-year permit for approximately 212 linear feet of District real estate along the east bank of the north branch of the Chicago River at Berteau Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, for riverbank management and restoration. Consideration shall be a nominal fee of $10.00.
NeighborSpace has maintained the site under a series of permits since 2003, and has requested a permit to continue its management of the property which includes native planting, debris removal and the maintenance of a wood chipped path. The current permit expires on August 13, 2013.
The District's technical departments have no objections to a 5-year permit for the site. Previous permits have authorized a waiver of the environmental insurance and a nominal fee. The same terms are requested for this new permit.
It is requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and approve the issuance of a 5-year permit to NeighborSpace to use approximately 212 linear feet of District real estate along the east bank of the north branch of the Chicago River at Berteau Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, for riverbank management and restoration. Consideration shall be a nominal fee of $10.00.
It is also requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and direct the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and the Clerk to execute the permit agreement after it is approved by the General Counsel as to form and legality.
Requested, Ronald M. Hill, General Counsel, RMH:STM:BEB
Recommended, David St. Pierre, Executive Director
Respectfully Submitted, Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, Chairman Committee on Real Estate Development
