RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF JANUARY 3, 2013

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing James T. Dencek's fifty years of service to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and congratulating him on his well-earned retirement
Body
WHEREAS, James T. Dencek began his service with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District in 1960 as a Laboratory Assistant II; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dencek rose through the ranks of the District, serving with distinction in the positions of Laboratory Technician, Sanitary Chemist I and II, Sanitary Engineer II, Pollution Control Officer II and III, and Pollution Control Officer IV; and
WHEREAS, as Supervisor of the Research and Development Department's Industrial Waste Division Field Section, Jim Dencek's leadership skills resulted in a significantly reduced industrial pollution load to the District's plants and waterways while earning for him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and supervisors; and
WHEREAS, during his tour of duty with the District, Jim Dencek helped implement innovative inspection and sampling procedures, resulting in a dramatic reduction in the severity of violations as well as a substantial cost savings to taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dencek retired from service to the District in 1994; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1997, Mr. Dencek returned to the District as Aide to the President and began his tenure playing "Bad Cop" to President O'Brien's "Good Cop"; and  
 
WHEREAS, under President O'Brien's leadership, Mr. Dencek worked with many Boards and perfected the ability to solve problems and answer any questions arising from "Team 9" post-haste; and
 
WHEREAS, after assisting the Board for sixteen years, Mr. Dencek has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2012; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Dencek will be sorely missed by both his colleagues and by local restaurant owners, whose business will suffer in his retirement; and
 
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners and staff of the District extend their heartfelt wishes for as much success in his retirement as Jim has enjoyed throughout his career and express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Dencek's family, including his wife JoAnn, sons Jimmy and Jeff, daughters Jillian and Jorie and his eleven beloved grandchildren for allowing the District to take advantage of Jim's outstanding commitment and unparalleled talents for the benefit of all residents of the District; and
    
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby recognize Jim Dencek's dedicated service for fifty years to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and express our gratitude and appreciation for his work on behalf of the taxpayers of the District; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Jim Dencek.
