Mr. David St. Pierre, Executive Director

Title
Authority to settle the Workers' Compensation claim of Andrew Grant vs. MWRDGC, Case No. 12 WC 02698, Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (IWCC), in the sum of $30,012.11.   Account 901-30000-601090
Body

Dear Sir:

Andrew Grant is a Treatment Plant Operator at the Kirie Water Reclamation Plant.  On October 2, 2009, he twisted his knee at work.

Mr. Grant did not lose any time from work immediately and underwent a long period of conservative treatment consisting of physical therapy and injections.  Conservative treatment failed, and an MRI revealed torn cartilage of the left knee.

On June 17, 2010, Mr. Grant underwent arthroscopic left knee repair.  The post operative diagnosis is left knee cartilage tear on the patella with medial plica.  Following this procedure, he underwent additional physical therapy and was able to return to work on July 12, 2010.

Mr. Grant lost a total of 17 days from work.

Mr. Grant filed an Application for Adjustment of Claim with the IWCC.  Subject to approval of the IWCC, this claim can now be settled for the sum of $30,012.11, which represents 21% loss of use of the left leg.  This settlement would also close out his future medical rights.

The General Counsel believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Ronald M. Hill, General Counsel, RMH:LAG:RG:nm
Respectfully Submitted, Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, Vice Chairman, Committee on Judiciary Disposition of this agenda item will be documented in the official Regular Board Meeting Minutes of the Board of Commissioners for January 17, 2013
