MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF JANUARY 17, 2013

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners extending sympathy and condolences to the family of Mary Valtierra
Body
 
WHEREAS, Mary Valtierra was born September 1, 1926, in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Frank and Andrea Vallejo, one of fourteen children and the first generation of the Vallejo family to be born in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Mary Valtierra was called to eternal rest too soon on October 14, 2012; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary was reunited with her beloved husband, Alfonso and adored son, Alfonso, Jr., who preceded her in death; and
WHEREAS, Mary is survived by her sons John and Steve, her daughter Maria Granado, ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, six of her siblings, and many nieces and nephews; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary was very proud of her Mexican heritage and culture, and shared that pride with her children, including a love of the Spanish language; and
WHEREAS, a lifetime member of the Mennonite Church, Mary devoted her life to helping others and raising her children to do the same; and
 
WHEREAS, for thirty years, Mary dedicated her time to the Church Council and coordinating the Mennonite Sunday Bible School; and
 
WHEREAS, a bi-lingual Sunday school teacher for forty years, Mary also directed the Mennonite "Fresh Air Program," a summer farm vacation for youth in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary was a member of the Board of Directors for the Annual Autumn Illinois/Indiana Mennonite Relief Sale, which she also helped organize and for which she always volunteered to cook; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary was a volunteer coordinator of the Lawndale Mennonite Food Pantry for fifteen years; and
 
WHEREAS, devoted to helping improve the life of young people in her community, Mary was a member of the Board of Directors for the Little Village Youth in Action and was a co-founder and member of the Board of Directors, as well as a substitute teacher of the Central Mennonite Learning Center, an elementary school; and
 
WHEREAS, the family and friends of Mary Valtierra will miss her love and devotion, and her church community will miss her great faith and dedicated service; and
  
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Mary Valtierra; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same, suitable engrossed, be presented to the family of Mary Valtierra.
