COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY

Mr. David St. Pierre, Executive Director

Title
Authority to settle the Workers' Compensation Claim of Henry Koney vs. MWRDGC, Case No. 11 WC 33913, Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (IWCC), in the sum of $29,918.54.  Account 901-30000-601090
Body

Dear Sir:

Henry Koney is a Machinist who works at the O'Brien Water Reclamation Plant.  On September 27, 2011, he injured his left knee at work.

On September 29, 2011, an MRI performed on the left knee revealed a tear in the posterior horn and body of the medial meniscus with slight extrusion of the medial meniscal body, small joint effusion, moderate-sized lobulated Baker Cyst, and mild diffuse articular cartilage thinning along the weight-bearing aspects of the medial and lateral tibiofemoral joint compartments.  As a result, Mr. Koney underwent arthroscopic partial, medial, and lateral meniscectomies and release of synovial plica of the left knee.

A total of four weeks of lost time benefits were paid for this injury.

Mr. Koney filed an Application for Adjustment of Claim with the IWCC through his counsel.  Subject to approval of the IWCC, this claim can now be settled for the sum of $29,918.54, which represents 20% loss of use of the left leg.  This settlement will close out any future lost time benefits as well as any future medical exposure on this claim.

The General Counsel believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Ronald M. Hill, General Counsel, RMH:LAG:RG:nm
Respectfully Submitted, Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, Chairman Committee on Judiciary
