Dear Sir:
James DeSmidt is a Machinist at the Egan Water Reclamation Plant. On April 29, 2005, while repairing a gravity belt thickener, he slipped on a mixture of polymer and sludge and fell onto his outstretched left wrist. He went to Alexian Bros. Medical Center and was diagnosed with an undisplaced fracture of the left distal radius. Treatment included a casting and a physical therapy program. He lost 81 days of work.
Subject to the approval of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, this claim can be settled for the sum of $16,184.29, which represents a 15% loss of use of the left hand/wrist.
The General Counsel believes this is an equitable settlement to conclude this matter and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.
