Dear Sir:

 

Contract documents and specifications have been prepared for landscape maintenance at the various service areas, at the request of the Maintenance and Operations Department.

 

The purpose of this contract is to provide landscape maintenance services for beautification purposes at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant, Mainstream Pumping Station, Silver Creek Reservoir, Northlake Reservoir, Racine Avenue Pumping Station, Lawndale Avenue Solids Management Area, Calumet Water Reclamation Plant, Calumet Solids Management Area, and North Side Service Areas. The work consists of site cleaning, grass cutting, trimming, edging, weed control, herbicide, insecticide and fertilizer application, seeding, pruning and tree and shrub maintenance.

 

The estimated cost for this contract is $2,296,900.00. The estimated 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 expenditures are $525,000.00, $720,700.00, $780,700.00, and $270,500.00, respectively.

 

The bid deposit for this contract is $19,600.00 for Group A, $5,500.00 for Group B, $17,100.00 for Group C, $1,050.00 for Group D, $900.00 for Group E, $1,050.00 for Group F, and $700.00 for Group G.

 

The contract specifications require that all work commence on May 6, 2010, or upon approval of the Contractor’s Bond, and as directed by the Engineer; and terminate by April 31, 2013, or upon expenditure of available funds, whichever occurs sooner. Liquidated damages of up to $100.00 may be assessed for each calendar day that the contractor is in default of completing the work in the times specified.

 

The Multi-Project Labor Agreement will be included in this contract. 

 

Revised Appendix D will be included in this contract. The type of work to be performed under the contract is within the Miscellaneous Building Construction category for establishing PCE utilization goals. The PCE utilization goals for this contract are 10% Minority Business Enterprises (MBE), 5% Women’s Business Enterprises (WBE), and 10% Small Business Enterprises (SBE).

 

The tentative schedule for this contract is as follows:

Advertise                     March 24, 2010

Bid Opening                     April 20, 2010

Award                     May 6, 2010

Completion                     April 31, 2013

 

Funds are available in Accounts 101-66000/67000/68000/69000-612420.

 

In view of the foregoing, it is recommended that the Director of Procurement and Materials

Management be authorized to advertise Contract 10-665-11.
