RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF APRIL 1, 2010

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners extending sympathy and condolences to the family of Earl A. Deutsch

Body

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Earl A. Deutsch departed this life on March 24, 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Deutsch was born in Chicago on March 22, 1924 to Sidney and Fay Deutsch; and

 

WHEREAS, Earl served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and saw duty in China, Burma and India; and

 

WHEREAS, Earl A. Deutsch received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois in 1946 and a Juris Doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School in 1950 and began a stellar career in law; and

 

WHEREAS, in the mid-1950’s Mr. Deutsch founded the law firm of Deutsch, Levy and Engel, Chartered, which presently serves the District as Special Counsel for complex environmental matters; and

 

WHEREAS, Earl served as Trustee of the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago from October 1965 through December of 1966; and

 

WHEREAS, during Earl’s storied legal career, in addition to serving as attorney and counselor to numerous business clients, as a director on the boards of banks and real estate companies, and a repeated delegate to the Democratic National Convention, he also served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel, City of Chicago, Assistant State’s Attorney of Cook County, a Master in Chancery for the Circuit Court of Cook County, and as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Earl A. Deutsch was predeceased by his wife, Lois, and sister, Elaine Rubens; and

 

WHEREAS, Earl is survived by his loving children, Andrew, Amy and Jill, their spouses, Cynthia Babcock Deutsch, Arnold Glickman and Roger Stein, and his adoring grandchildren, Jonathan, Laura, Sara, Matthew, Michael and William; and

 

WHEREAS, Earl’s unique and vigorous personality made him loved and respected by all who met him, and the friends he made over his long life are too many to count; and

 

WHEREAS, countless people mourn the passing of this highly regarded attorney, counselor, father, grandfather and friend.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Earl A. Deutsch; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Earl A. Deutsch.
