RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF AUGUST 12, 2010

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners commemorating the induction of Ben Sosewitz into the NACWA Hall of Fame
Body
WHEREAS, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (“NACWA”), formerly the Association of Municipal Sewerage Agencies (“AMSA”) was established in 1970 by a founding group of individuals representing 22 large municipal sewerage agencies including the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (“the District”); and
WHEREAS, NACWA initially came together to secure federal funding for municipal wastewater treatment and discuss emerging national interests in improving the quality of the nation’s waters; and
WHEREAS, NACWA is now a nationally recognized leader in the development of environmental policy and a sought after technical resource on water quality and ecosystem protection issues; and
WHEREAS, Ben Sosewitz was an attendee at the first meeting of what is now NACWA in April of 1970, earning him the distinct title of “incorporation member; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sosewitz, former General Superintendent of the District, was elected to the first Board of Trustees in October of 1970; and
Whereas, Ben Sosewitz was instrumental in the establishment of what is now know as NACWA and its transformation into the dynamic national organization involved in all facets of water quality protection that it is today; and
WHEREAS, Ben Sosewitz was a valued employee and respected leader at the District and NACWA, one in which the District takes great pride in having employed; and
WHEREAS, NACWA has established a Hall of Fame to commemorate the accomplishments of its exemplary members and officers; and
WHEREAS, NACWA has announced the inclusion of Mr. Ben Sosewitz in the Inaugural Class of Admission to the NACWA Hall of Fame; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby congratulate Mr. Ben Sosewitz on his induction into the NACWA Hall of Fame; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Mr. Ben Sosewitz.
