RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF AUGUST 12, 2010

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing the 28th Annual Chicago Regional Minority Enterprise Development Week

Body

 

WHEREAS, for over 25 years local and regional Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week celebrations have been held across the Country, culminating with the National MED Week conference and White House ceremony honoring the achievements and many contributions of minority entrepreneurs, individuals, and organizations that support minority business development.

 

WHEREAS, Minority Enterprise Development Week was created in 1983 by Presidential Proclamation and has been celebrated annually for twenty-eight years to honor the contributions and achievements of minority business owners and their advocates throughout the United States; and

 

WHEREAS, the Chicago Regional MED Chapter will celebrate on August 12 & 13, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, the Chicago MED Council is composed of Minority Business Owners, Corporations and Government Agencies that are committed to supporting and maximizing opportunities for minority businesses; and

 

WHEREAS, the Chicago MED Week celebration consists of three days of outcome oriented workshops targeted at minority owned business and the Annual MED Week Awards Gala; and

 

WHEREAS, the Chicago Regional Minority Enterprise Development Week 2010 celebration on August 12 & 13, 2010 is the culmination of activities conducted throughout the year that are designed to assist minority business owners in successfully participating in the entrepreneurial process and acknowledges and honors the contributions and achievements of minority business leaders and corporations; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago has been a pioneer in recognizing the significant economic contributions that minority business owners make to the economy of this nation, which is evinced by its early adoption of a policy which supports the entrepreneurial aspirations of minority businesses within its jurisdiction; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago has been a proud sponsor of the Chicago Regional Minority Enterprise Development Week for a number of years; and

 

WHEREAS, the development, encouragement and support of minority business enterprise is in the best interests of the City of Chicago, Cook County, the State of Illinois and the United States of America; and 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, hereby recognize August 12 & 13, 2010, for celebration of the 28th Annual Chicago Regional Minority Enterprise Development Week and urge our fellow citizens to take note of, and participate in, the special activities arranged in observance of this event; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the Chairman of the Chicago Minority Enterprise Development Council.
