Title: Requesting Approval to Eliminate the Retiree Recognition Program

TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF NOVEMBER 18, 2010

COMMITTEE ON PENSION, HUMAN RESOURCES AND CIVIL SERVICE

Mr. Richard Lanyon, Executive Director

Title

Requesting Approval to Eliminate the Retiree Recognition Program

Body

Dear Sir:

Following discussion at the November 4, 2010 Committee on Budget and Employment, it is recommended that the retiree recognition program be eliminated. The estimated annual savings is $7,000.

The current retiree recognition program was approved by the Board of Commissioners at its October 16, 2008 Regular Meeting. As the District examines its organizational priorities and seeks more cost-effective policies and programs, the retiree recognition program has been identified as a benefit that provides no operational payback to the District. Funds for the retiree recognition program can be diverted to more mission-critical operations.

Requested, Denice E. Korcal, Director of Human Resources

Respectfully Submitted, Gloria Alitto Majewski, Chairman Committee on Pension, Human Resources and Civil Service
