MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF DECEMBER 16, 2010

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners extending sympathy and condolences to the family of Randall Sherman

Body

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman was born on October 22, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman passed from this life on October 26, 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, the Funeral Service for Randall Sherman was held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Piser Chapel, 9200 North Skokie Blvd. in Skokie Illinois and he was later interred at Rosemont Park Cemetery; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman, son of Charlene, nee Weller, Skora and the late Irving Sherman, is survived by his loving mother, his brother Craig Sherman, his sister Lori Sherman Fentem, his nephews Lee Sherman and Zach Fentem and niece Ashlyn Fentem,  and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman graduated from Senn High School in Chicago, Illinois and received a Bachelors of Science in Journalism from the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, attending on a full academic scholarship; and 

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman hosted a radio show on Northwestern’s WNUR; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman studied toward a Master’s Degree in Journalism at Oklahoma State University; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman briefly served as a television news reporter in Fayetteville, Arkansas; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman’s commitment to educating and informing the public on various cultural, political, and societal issues led him to produce and co-host the show Issue Forum on Chicago Access Network Television; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman’s commitment to identifying ethical, trustworthy and qualified candidates in the political arena led him to co-found the Illinois Committee for Honest Government; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Illinois Committee for Honest Government; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman was a devoted public servant who worked for Cook County for over 31 years in a variety of positions; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman was a dedicated advocate for Veterans’ Rights and was a member of the Vietnam Veteran’s post and the editor of the Vietnam Veterans’ Newsletter in Des Plaines, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman had a great passion and love for the world of Philately, beginning at the age of 4 when he started collecting stamps and had worked enthusiastically and tirelessly for numerous Philatelic organizations ever since; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman served as Secretary of the Chicago Philatelic Society, Secretary and Vice-President for Publicity for the Combined Philatelic Exhibition, and President of the Chicagoland First Day Cover Society; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman was a member of the North Shore Philatelic Society, the Germany Philatelic Society Chapter 5, the Scandinavian Collectors Club, the United Nations Philatelic Association chapters, and the Philatelic Society devoted to African heritage; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman was a longtime member and frequent exhibitor with the American First Day Philatelic Society and was honored for his intensive work when he was awarded the Glenn C. Michel Award for volunteerism in philately; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman was selected by the Chicago Philatelic Society to receive the very prestigious Newbury Medal for major and continuing contributions to Chicagoland philately; and

 

WHEREAS, Randall Sherman’s family and friends will miss his enthusiastic, dedicated and selfless involvement in his numerous civic, cultural and political organizations, his intelligence, insight, energy and passion for life and his love and commitment for his family and friends; and

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Randall Sherman; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Randall Sherman.
