COMMITTEE ON PURCHASING

Mr. Richard Lanyon, General Superintendent

Title

Authorization to decrease cost estimate for Contract 08-689-13 Services to Maintain, Test and Upgrade Underground Storage Tanks at Various Locations, Group D, from $40,000.00 to $28,000.00, Account 101-69000-612490, Requisition 1223291

Body

Dear Sir:

On October 4, 2007, the Board of Commissioners authorized the Purchasing Agent to advertise for bids, Contract 08-689-11, Services to Maintain, Test and Upgrade Underground Storage Tanks at Various Locations at an estimated cost of $140,700.00. No bids were received for this Contract.

The Contract was restructured into four Groups, and on March 20, 2008, the Board of Commissioners authorized an increase to the cost estimate in an amount of $40,000.00 to include the installation of two additional tanks at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant (Group D). The contract re-advertised as Contract 08-689-12, and Groups A, B and C were awarded at the July 10, 2008, Board Meeting. The bids received for Group D were rejected because the bids were higher than the Engineer’s estimate.

The scope of work under Group D has been revised, resulting in a decrease to the Engineer’s estimate.

It is hereby recommended that the Board of Commissioners authorize the Purchasing Agent to decrease the cost estimate for Contract 08-689-13, Group D, from $40,000.00 to $28,000.00. The contract will be re-advertised in the future as Contract 08-689-13.

Funds will be restored in Account 101-69000-612490.

Requested, Osoth Jamjun, Chief of Maintenance and Operations, OJ:MPS:SO’C:MAG:BSO

Recommended, Darlene A. LoCascio, Purchasing Agent

Respectfully Submitted, Barbara J. McGowan, Chairman Committee on Purchasing
