Title

Authority to add Project 11-193-3P, Fine Screens Replacement, Stickney Water Reclamation Plant, to the Engineering Department Capital Improvement Program and the Capital Improvements Bond Fund, estimated cost of the project is $5,500,000.00

Body

Dear Sir:

Authority is requested to add Project 11-193-3P, Fine Screens Replacement, Stickney Water Reclamation Plant to the Engineering Department Capital Improvement Program and the Capital Improvements Bond Fund.

The purpose of this project is to improve the reliability of the Westside fine screens and Southwest sludge screens. This project is expected to reduce maintenance on the Westside fine screens as the screens are over forty years old. The original manufacturer is no longer in business and spare parts are not obtainable and must be custom fabricated. The new fine screens will have narrower bar spacing, which will capture more screenings and consequently reduce maintenance on downstream equipment. The Southwest sludge screens are unreliable and maintenance intensive and should be replaced with standard bar screens.

This project consists of the following:

1.                     Replace the six Westside fine screens with new bar screens with 1/2” spacing.

2.                     Replace the controls for the Westside fine screens; they will be located in a non-classified area.

3.                     Replace the three Southwest sludge screens with new bar screens with 3/16” spacing.

4.                     Replace a condensate return pump in the Westside fine screens building.

The estimated cost of the contract is $5,500,000.00.

Respectfully submitted, Kenneth A. Kits, Director of Engineering, TEK:ECB
