RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 21, 2023

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Dr. Tekleab Gala
Body
WHEREAS, Dr. Tekleab Gala is a professor of geomatics and the geographic information system lab coordinator at Chicago State University. He is also a member of the Community Research on Climate and Urban Science (CROCUS) team. CROCUS, funded by the United States Department of Energy in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory, is researching climate change in urban areas and the impact of environmental inequalities on the progression of that change; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gala earned his undergraduate degree in agriculture and plant sciences from Hawassa University in Ethiopia, his Master of Science degree in soil science and geomatics from Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands, and his Doctor of Philosophy in geography and environmental sciences from Western University in Canada; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gala is an accomplished academic and has published fifty-four articles on topics that explore various environmental conditions, including origination, and the impact (or potential impact) on the local communities; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago recognizes Dr. Gala for his dedication to community-level research and focus on disadvantaged communities and their vulnerability to the effects of climate change; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize Dr. Tekleab Gala; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Dr. Tekleab Gala.
