RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Body

 

WHEREAS, January 9th of every year is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, the day for recognizing the law enforcement officers who risk their lives and health each day while protecting the public; and

 

WHEREAS, National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day began when multiple organizations joined efforts to express gratitude for law enforcement officers. The intent was to provide the public with opportunities to understand the crucial role officers play in our society, while allowing those officers to feel appreciated by the communities they serve; and

 

WHEREAS, while many of the health risks associated with policing are obvious, there are many hazards related to policing, including motor vehicle accidents, needlestick injuries, noise and lead exposure, shift work and associated fatigue, exposure to infectious diseases, workplace stress and exposure to traumatic incidents that may affect mental health; and

 

WHEREAS, there are almost one million sworn law enforcement officers in America, including the dedicated members of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) Police; and

 

WHEREAS, in support of their services, individuals are encouraged to do their part in thanking law enforcement officers on this day. Some ways people can show their support include wearing blue clothing, posting a message on social media, or sending a card of support to a local police department; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, do hereby recognize National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
