COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY

Mr. John P. Murray, Acting Executive Director

Title

Authority to settle the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Claims of Regina Peters vs. MWRDGC, Claim Number 21WC021269 and 21WC021410 in the sum of $25,000.00, Account 901-30000-601090

Body

Dear Sir:

Regina Peters is currently a Maintenance Laborer B working at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. On March 30, 2021, Ms. Peters was working as a Maintenance Laborer A at the Calumet Water Reclamation Plant, when she reported falling backwards while attempting to replace a manhole cover, hitting and injuring her head. Ms. Peters sought treatment on March 31, 2021, at the Emergency Department. She was off work from March 31, 2021, and returned to work on April 12, 2021. She was placed off work again on April 13, 2021, and returned to work on June 3, 2021.

On July 21, 2021, Ms. Peters reported experiencing pain in her back and tingling in her hands, while weed whacking. She sought treatment at the Emergency Department and was treated conservatively for thoracic and lumbar strains. Ms. Peters did not lose any time from work.

Ms. Peters was paid 9.0 weeks of lost time benefits totaling $8,325.36.

Ms. Peters filed an Application of Adjustment of Claim with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through her counsel. Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this case can be settled for $25,000.00 representing approximately 6.0% loss of a person as a whole. This settlement will close out any future lost time and medical benefits associated with this injury.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Thaddeus J. Kosowski, Director of Human Resources, TJK:BLW:DMG
