RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF JUNE 20, 2019

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners congratulating Rev. Dr. Carl E. King on his election to the National Judiciary Board for the Church of God in Christ.

Body

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Carl E. King, Sr. is the founding pastor of Christ Community Church in South Holland, Illinois (“Christ Community”); and

 

WHEREAS, founded in 1987, Dr. King has led Christ Community to become a beacon of light in the community; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. King has been an active and committed leader within the Church of God in Christ, serving as Administrative Assistant and District Superintendent for the William Roberts Memorial District of the First Jurisdiction of Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, at the national level, Dr. King serves as Dean of the Institute for the General Council of Pastors and Elders, and Chair of the Codification Committee for the General Assembly. He was also recently elected to the Judiciary Board as a Justice; and

 

WHEREAS, a gifted teacher and educator, Dr. King is a former Adjunct Faculty for Indiana Wesleyan University in Merrillville, Indiana, a former member of Wheaton College’s Board of Visitors. He also currently serves as a board member on Evangelical Training Association and as a member of Unity Christian Academy’s Board of Visitors; and

 

WHEREAS, actively engaged in the community, Dr. King serves as a Chaplain for both South Holland’s Fire and Police Departments, and has also served as the President of the South Holland Ministerial Alliance, as well as Board President for Thornton High School District 205 School Board; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. King has been elected to the Judiciary Board of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. (COGIC), a high honor in the Church and in the community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Judiciary Board is the Supreme Court of the COGIC, acting as the final authority on questions of ecclesiastical constitutional doctrine, maintaining balance between the Legislative (General Assembly) and Executive Branch (General Board). The Judiciary Board is also the final appellate forum of COGIC for disputes, except in cases that have been appealed to the Presiding Prelate for executive clemency; and

 

WHEREAS, the Judiciary Board is comprised of nine members from Episcopal, Ministerial and General Assembly categories of COGIC. Three members are Jurisdictional Bishops (Episcopal) and three members are elders other than bishops (Ministerial); and three members are from the church at large (General Assembly). Board members are elected and retained in office by the General Assembly; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative that each member of the Judicial Board be someone who possesses mature judgment, proven ability, integrity and a thorough knowledge of the COGIC constitution and doctrine, all qualities embodied by Rev. Dr. Carl E. King, Sr.; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago do hereby congratulate Rev. Dr. Carl E. King on his election to the National Judiciary Board for the Church of God in Christ; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented.
