RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Mary Ann Boyle’s twenty years of service to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and congratulating her on a well-earned retirement

WHEREAS, after twenty years of dedicated service to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (District), Mary Ann Boyle has announced her retirement; and
WHEREAS, from childhood, Mary Ann was a source of pride to her parents, graduating 3rd in her class at St. Scholastica High School; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she was also the president of her sorority Phi Mu; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann first answered the call to finance in the private sector, beginning as an audit supervisor for Deloitte and Touche (now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC), then progressing in her career as Manager of Corporate Accounting at the Jepson Corporation, Director of Operations Accounting at Stericycle, Controller at Trippe Manufacturing Company and Coleman Cable Systems Inc., and Corporate Accounting Manager at Georgia-Pacific LLC; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Mary Ann made the jump to the public sector and found her home at the District as its Assistant Treasurer, where she implemented the District’s Retiree Health Care Trust and Plan, led the SAP (systems applications and products) conversion to the treasury module, and helped guide the agency through the Great Recession; and
WHEREAS, in 2011, Mary Ann was appointed the 16th Treasurer of the District, becoming the first woman in District history to serve in this capacity, where she navigated District finances through the turbulence of the coronavirus pandemic, issued over $1.8 billion in bond sales, maintained the agency’s AAA credit rating, triumphed through SEC (United States Securities and Exchange Commission) and IRS (Internal Revenue Service) inquiries, and saved taxpayers millions of dollars through creative and prescient debt management strategies; and
WHEREAS, Commissioners, Executive Directors, peers, and staff alike have always trusted Mary Ann for her keen insight, sage advice, true-north moral compass, and an unparalleled memory of details, earning her the respect and admiration of all as a conscientious public servant dedicated to the well-being of the District; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann has led the Treasury team by example and with a human focus, solidifying its unofficial title as the “Best Department Ever”, despite not actually being a department; and
WHEREAS, colleagues, friends, and family hold Mary Ann in the highest esteem as the smartest person in the room who is at the same time still humble and generous, readily supporting others’ professional and personal endeavors, eagerly reaching back to help the next generation move forward, and freely giving money and time to charitable causes; and
WHEREAS, from life-long connections made at St. Timothy Elementary School, throughout the rest of her academics, career, and social network, those fortunate enough to know Mary Ann regard her as a first-rate friend, always ready to comfort those struggling through difficulties or cheer on pals to their very best; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann is deeply rooted in family, happily acting as her mother’s travel companion on countless trips around the United States to baseball games and casinos near and far, as the best aunt possible to her three nieces and nephew, and as a sister who could not be better (according to a brother who is not that bitter that she got both the looks and the brains); and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago extend their heartfelt wishes to Mary Ann for a long and happy retirement, cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini, cruising the world’s waterways, and bingeing on true crime dramas; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize Mary Ann Boyle’s twenty years of service to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and congratulate her on a well-earned retirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Mary Ann Boyle.
