RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF JUNE 20, 2019

RESOLUTION: Recognizing Egba Day in the City of Chicago on July 6, 2019

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Egba Nation is made up of the following sub-divisions in Southwestern Nigeria: the Ake, Oke Ona, Gbagura and Yewaland; and

 

WHEREAS, the Egba National Association USA/Canada was formed in 1999, initially by three associations of people of Egba and Yewa descent, one of which was the Egba Unity of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, shortly thereafter, the association grew to six chapters. Now the Egba National Association USA/Canada is proud to have fifteen longstanding chapters and three evolving chapters across the continental United States and Canada; and

 

WHEREAS, the objectives of the Egba National Association USA/Canada are to promote the interests and welfare of one another; to protect the cultural heritage of the  Egba and Yewa people; to coordinate and intensify efforts to ensure effective dialogue between all Egbas and Yewa in diaspora for the promotion of humanitarian objectives in their fatherland; to foster economic, social and educational development in Egba and Yewa land; to seek the economic advancement of all descendants of Egba and Yewa residing at home and abroad; and to positively impact the lives of the descendants of Egba/Egbado (Yewa) indigenes living within the boundaries of Egba/Egbado  (Yewa), in the Southwestern area of Nigeria through, educational, social and cultural projects, and health and welfare improvements; and

 

WHEREAS, the Egba Unity of Chicago celebrates its rich African heritage and culture on July 6, 2019, “Egba Day”, in the City of Chicago; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, hereby recognize July 6, 2019 as Egba Day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Records of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, presented to the Egba Unity of Chicago.
