RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF MARCH 19, 2026

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners honoring the Westside Long-Term Recovery Group
Body
WHEREAS, Westside Long-Term Recovery Group is a growing coalition of neighbors, nonprofits, and disaster relief agencies working together to address the effects of extreme weather events on residents of Chicago’s West Side; and
WHEREAS, in conjunction with their partner group, Westside Health Authority, Westside Long-Term Recovery Group recently secured a contract with the city’s Department of Housing (DOH) that will enable them to continue helping with mold remediation in homes and businesses; and
WHEREAS, after the severe rain event of 2023, during which more than 15,000 homes flooded, the group has worked with contractors in the community who are certified experts in safe debris removal, lead removal and mold mediation. So far, the group has cleaned out more than 200 homes; and
WHEREAS, Westside Long-Term Recovery Group also assists in organizing crucial training, such as partnering with the EPA to offer a course on Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Training, offered at no cost to attendees; and
WHEREAS, Westside Long-Term Recovery Group is committed to continuing the important work of helping residents to fix their homes after such disasters; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, proudly honor and celebrate Westside Long-Term Recovery Group; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Westside Long-Term Recovery Group.
