RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Cook County United Against Hate
Body
WHEREAS, Cook County United Against Hate is an alliance consisting of numerous government agencies, academic institutions, businesses, nonprofit groups, religious groups, and individuals united by their pledge to publicly denounce racism, bigotry, and hatred; and
WHEREAS, created in 2022, Cook County United Against Hate strives to encourage and facilitate recognition of hate and its impact on our communities by providing educational resources that emphasize the degradation that racism and intolerance cause in our society, including open forum discussions, documentary films, and online workshops; and
WHEREAS, Cook County United Against Hate emphasizes the importance of reporting hate crimes, including those that occur on the internet, to the proper investigative authorities. Only when hate crime is exposed can it be eliminated; and
WHEREAS, in September, the alliance hosted United Against Hate Week. Held from September 21st-27th, United Against Hate Week was organized specifically to combat a recent increase in hate motivated criminal activity in Cook County and around the world; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago honors the commitment of Cook County United Against Hate to ending hatred and racism in Cook County and beyond; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize Cook County United Against Hate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
