Mr. Richard Lanyon, General Superintendent

Title

Authority to add Project 06-363-3D, Chicago Underflow Plan (CUP) O’Hare Reservoir Repair and Rehabilitation to the Engineering Department Capital Improvement Program and the Capital Improvements Bond Fund, estimated cost of the project is $6,500,000.00

Body

Dear Sir:

Authority is requested to add Project 06-363-3D, Chicago Underflow Plan (CUP) O’Hare Reservoir Repair and Rehabilitation to the Engineering Department Capital Improvement Program and the Capital Improvements Bond Fund.

The purpose of the project is to repair and rehabilitate the subject reservoir to ensure its proper operation. This reservoir has experienced some local failures in the drainage system, side slopes, and the liner. Major repair and rehabilitation work is necessary to restore the integrity of the reservoir.

The CUP Reservoir was designed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE), and construction was completed in 2001.  The District is responsible for the maintenance of the reservoir. The District will be seeking reimbursement from the USACOE for part or all of the expenditures.

The project consists of installing a cutoff wall, removing and replacing a portion of the liner, repairing failed slopes, adding a protective concrete wedge over the liner, and installing eight new manholes in the toe drain system.

The estimated cost of the project is $6,500,000.00.

If further clarification is required, please advise the undersigned.

Requested, Joseph P. Sobanski, Chief Engineer, TEK:JKK:SBV:JB

Respectfully Submitted, Gloria Alitto Majewski, Chairman Committee on Finance
