RESOLUTION FOR THE BOARD MEETING OF JUNE 20, 2019

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Abigail and Sophia O’Quin as young leaders in the community
Body
WHEREAS, twin sisters Abigail and Sophia O'Quin are nine-year-old, third-grade students from Churchill School in Homewood; and
WHEREAS, the sisters are dedicated Brownies in Girls Scout Troop #65113; and
WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia have been socially conscious and intellectually curious from the time they learned to talk; and
WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia have demonstrated leadership qualities at a very young age; and
WHEREAS, as young leaders, Abigail and Sophia have lent their voices to social issues in the community; and
WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia are possibly the youngest registered speakers before the Cook County Board when they testified about protecting against housing discrimination; and
WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia have also taken a keen interest in District operations, and have taken a tour of our Stickney Treatment Plant; and
WHEREAS, the girls were very interested in learning how microorganisms help in the treatment process, how waste is turned into biosolids, and they were especially excited to wear hard hats; and
WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia are a shining example to their peers as future leaders in the community; and
WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia’s parents are very proud of their daughters and their many accomplishments at such a young age; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, do hereby recognize Abigail and Sophia O’Quin for their leadership in the community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented.
