TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF MARCH 6, 2008
COMMITTEE ON PURCHASING
Mr. Richard Lanyon, General Superintendent
Title
Report on rejection of bids for Contract 07-422-11, for Furnishing, Delivering, and Installing a Fire Alarm/Voice System and Elevator Recall System at the Main Office Building, Estimated Cost: $95,000.00
Body
Dear Sir:
On May 3, 2007, the Board of Commissioners passed an order directing the Purchasing Agent to advertise for bids for Furnishing, Delivering, and Installing a Fire Alarm/Voice System and Elevator Recall System at the Main Office Building.
In response to a public advertisement of December 5, 2007, a bid opening was held on January 29, 2008. The bid tabulation for this contract is:
AMERICAN ELECTRIC CONSTRUCTION COMPANY $359,880.00
BROADWAY ELECTRIC, INC. $374,430.00
Two hundred fifteen (215) companies were notified of this contract being advertised and twenty-two (22) companies requested specifications.
After review of the bids, the General Administration Department has notified the Purchasing Department that the two bids received are 279% and 294% above the Engineer’s estimate and are considered too high for an award. General Administration has recommended that all bids be rejected. The Purchasing Agent concurs with this finding. Therefore, the Purchasing Agent has notified these firms that their bid has been rejected in the public’s best interest.
This contract will be reviewed and revised prior to re-advertisement.
Respectfully submitted, Darlene A. LoCascio, Purchasing Agent, DAL:SEB:klv
