The Committee on Finance reports on the Government Finance Officer’s Association Award to the District for Excellence in Financial Reporting for Fiscal Year 2006

Dear Sir:

 

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recently awarded the District the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the Fiscal Year 2006 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of accounting and financial reporting by state/local governments. This is the 32nd consecutive year the Certificate has been awarded to the District which puts the District in the top two percent of governments receiving a consecutive award.

 

The Certificate provides assurance to the District Board and management, and to investors, regulators, rating agencies, the general citizenry and others that the District's financial condition and results of operations are fully and fairly presented. The Certificate also demonstrates that the District’s CAFR is both easily readable and efficiently organized for the readers’ benefit.
