COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY

Mr. Brian A. Perkovich, Executive Director

Title

Authority to settle the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Claim of Deborah Nevels vs. MWRDGC, Claim Number 24WC020163 in the sum of $18,238.82 Account 901-30000-601090

Body

Dear Sir:

Deborah Nevels is a Maintenance Laborer A at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. On, November 9, 2022, Ms. Nevels reported that she was picking up branches while going downhill when she stepped on a branch and her right knee buckled. She had an MRI performed on April 3, 2023, which revealed mild patellofemoral compartment chondrosis, and moderate knee joint effusion.  She treated conservatively with medication, physical therapy, rest, and an injection.

Ms. Nevels was off work beginning on February 14, 2023, and returned to work April 10, 2023.  Ms. Nevels was also off work on June 21, 2023.

Ms. Nevels was paid 8.0 weeks of lost time benefits totaling $9,039.26.

Subject to the approval of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, IWCC, this Pro Se case can be settled for $18,238.82 representing approximately 8.5% of the right leg. This settlement will close out any future lost time and medical benefits associated with this injury.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District, and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Thaddeus J. Kosowski, Director of Human Resources, TJK:BLW:DMG
