TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF MARCH 6, 2008
COMMITTEE ON PURCHASING
Mr. Richard Lanyon, General Superintendent
Title
Report on rejection of bids for Contract 08-661-11, for Landscape Improvements in the North Side Service Area, Estimated Cost: $20,000.00
Body
Dear Sir:
On December 6, 2007, the Board of Commissioners passed an order directing the Purchasing Agent to advertise for bids for Landscape Improvements in the North Side Service Area.
In response to a public advertisement of December 19, 2007, a bid opening was held on January 15, 2008. The bid tabulation for this contract is:
BSL GROUP, INC. $43,980.00
LAWNMASTERS LANDSCAPING SERVICES, INC. $53,896.00
One hundred forty-nine (149) companies were notified of this contract being advertised and sixteen (16) companies requested specifications.
After review of the bids, the Maintenance and Operations Department has notified the Purchasing Department that the bid submitted by the lowest responsible bidder, BSL Group, Inc., is 120% above the Engineer’s estimate, and is considered too high for an award. The Maintenance and Operations Department has recommended that all bids be rejected. The Purchasing Agent concurs with this finding. Therefore, the Purchasing Agent has notified these firms that their bid has been rejected in the public’s best interest.
This contract will be cancelled and not re-advertised according to the Maintenance and Operations Department.
Respectfully submitted, Darlene A. LoCascio, Purchasing Agent, DAL:SEB:klv
