RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF MAY 16, 2024

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Infrastructure Week
Body
WHEREAS, the week of May 13-17, 2024 is being observed nationally as the 12th Annual Infrastructure Week; and
WHEREAS, Infrastructure Week is an annual, nationwide event focused on raising awareness about the importance of infrastructure and advocating for improvements that address some of our nation’s toughest challenges in transit and transportation, water systems, energy and more; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago area relies on critical infrastructure, including our roads and bridges, railroads and transit systems, ports and airports, pipes and water system, power supply, and access to internet, for our connectivity to the regional, national, and global economy; and
WHEREAS, this infrastructure enhances our local and regional economy, quality of life, safety, and the strength of our communities; and
WHEREAS, under the 2021 federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), over $454 billion in funding has been designated for nationwide infrastructure improvement, including over 56,000 projects and awards across over 4,500 communities; and
WHEREAS, over 1,400 drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects have been funded under BIL; and
WHEREAS, to grow our economy, keep Americans safe, and strengthen our communities, we need all levels of government and the private sector to work together to rebuild and repair our nation’s infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, Infrastructure Week 2024 will showcase our nation’s roads, rails, bridges, ports, energy grid, and water systems, as well as highlight the importance of prioritizing transformative infrastructure projects in our communities; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby officially recognize the week of May 13-17, 2024 as Infrastructure Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
