Dear Sir:
James Thiel is a Plumber at the O’Brien Water Reclamation Plant. On July 10, 2012, the employee sustained an injury to his left thumb. He was initially seen at the Industrial clinic on July 10, 2012. The employee was disabled effective July 11, 2012. He returned to work on July 16, 2012, but was disabled again effective August 16, 2012. His treatment consisted of splinting, physical therapy and medication. He was able to return to work on September 6, 2012.
On May 8, 2014, Mr. Thiel sustained an injury to his right elbow. He was initially seen at the Industrial clinic on May 8, 2014. He was placed on restricted duty effective May 9, 2014. His treatment consisted of medication and physical therapy. He was able to return to regular work on July 14, 2014.
Mr. Thiel was paid a total of $4,298.04 in lost time benefits, which represents 3.6 weeks of lost time benefits for the injury that occurred on July 10, 2012.
Mr. Thiel filed multiple Applications of Adjustment of Claims with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through his counsel. Subject to the approval of the IWCC, these cases can now be settled for $24,493.25, representing 25% loss of a left thumb and 6% loss of a right arm. This settlement will close out future lost time benefits, as well as any future medical benefits associated with these injuries.
The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and she be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.
