Body
Dear Sir:
Authorization is requested to enter into a joint funding agreement with the United States Department of the Interior - U.S. Geological Survey to fund a study to determine the location and extent of areas in Cook County (and parts of surrounding counties) that have hydrologic characteristics amenable to passive recharge of stormwater.
The study will use existing geographic data to identify areas in Cook County with features that are conducive to enhancing groundwater recharge using stormwater. The investigation will provide a preliminary indication of sites that may be suitable for locating stormwater best management practices to reduce surface runoff and enhance recharge of aquifers.
The total cost of the study to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is $46,500.00. Services under this agreement will commence October 1, 2008 and extend through February 27, 2009, with payment in full to be made in 2009.
In view of the foregoing, it is recommended that the District be authorized to enter into an agreement with United States Department of the Interior - U.S. Geological Survey in an amount not to exceed $46,500.00. Payments will be made by direct vouchers. Pending 2009 Budget Approval by the Board of Commissioners, funding will be available in Account 501-50000-601410.
