Dear Sir:
Hector Acosta is a Laborer Foreman who works at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. On May 2, 2022, he reported sustaining an injury to his left knee while walking back to the sewer truck after stepping on rocks. He was seen at the industrial clinic on May 2, 2022, and treated conservatively with restricted work and a knee brace. Mr. Acosta’s symptoms continued. He had an MRI of the left knee on July 18, 2022, and was diagnosed with a root tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. The employee had his knee surgically repaired on August 9, 2022; at which time he was disabled from work. He was able to return to work on August 24, 2022.
Mr. Acosta was paid a total of 2.2 weeks of lost time benefits totaling $2,740.96.
Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this Pro-Se case can be settled for $28,207.01, representing approximately 14.0% loss of use of the of the left leg. This settlement will close out any future lost time and medical benefits associated with this injury.
The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.
