TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF MAY 7, 2026

COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RESOURCES, PENSION AND CIVIL SERVICE

Honorable Kari K. Steele, President and Members of the Board of Commissioners

Title

Request for advice and consent to the reappointment of Jose A. Lopez as Commissioner on MWRD’s Ethics Commission for a two-year term pursuant to the Ethics Ordinance

Body

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Advice and consent are requested to reappoint Jose A. Lopez as a Commissioner on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s Ethics Commission (“Ethics Commission”) for a two-year term commencing May 17, 2026, and expiring May 16, 2028. Mr. Lopez has served on the Ethics Commission since the Board of Commissioners (“Board”) initially granted its advice and consent for his appointment on May 15, 2014.  Mr. Lopez has served consecutive terms since that time, with his current term expiring May 16, 2026.

Ethics Commissioners are appointed pursuant to the requirements of the Ethics Ordinance which requires the Executive Director to recommend appointments with the consent of the Board. Ethics Commissioners are appointed to 2-year terms and may be reappointed to serve subsequent terms. The Ethics Commissioners are compensated on a per-hour basis of $125.00 for hearings and $100.00 for preparation and non-hearing time. To maintain consistency on the Commission, Ethics Commissioners serve staggered terms.

Mr. Lopez is a highly competent private attorney with the firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP in Chicago, Illinois.  His reappointment to the Ethics Commission is warranted by the professionalism and commitment he has demonstrated during his years of service as an Ethics Commissioner.

I hereby seek the advice and consent of the Board of Commissioners regarding the reappointment of Jose A. Lopez as Commissioner to MWRD’s Ethics Commission for a two-year term pursuant to the Ethics Ordinance.

Recommended, John P. Murray, Executive Director, STM:EMA:nl
