RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF JUNE 16, 2016

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Denice Korcal’s more than thirty years of service to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and congratulating her on her well-earned retirement
Body
WHEREAS, Denice Korcal, having faithfully served the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago since 1985, has announced her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Denice was born to James and Uta Korcal in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, Germany; and
WHEREAS, as an Army family, the Korcals moved around quite a bit before settling in Chicago for Denice’s school years; and
WHEREAS, Denice studied Spanish at Ohio University Honors Tutorial College, graduating summa cum laude, but decided teaching the subject wasn’t for her, despite a few job offers; and
WHEREAS, her career at the District began on September 3, 1985 when Denice was hired as a Service Representative I in the Research and Development Department (now the Monitoring and Research Department); and
WHEREAS, while studying for her MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Denice became interested in Human Resources; and
WHEREAS, in January of 1988, Denice was promoted to Personnel Assistant in the Personnel Department (now the Human Resources Department) in the Classification, Compensation and Benefits Section; and
WHEREAS, a year later, Denice was promoted to Assistant Personnel Analyst in the same section; and
WHEREAS, in May of 1991, she became an Associate Personnel Analyst, moving up to Senior Personnel Analyst in the Administration Section two years later; and
WHEREAS, Denice became an Employment Manager in the Employment Services Section in April of 1997; and
WHEREAS, after serving ten years in that position, Denice was promoted to Assistant Director of Personnel in April of 2007; and
WHEREAS, in May of 2010, Denice was appointed Director of Human Resources; and
WHEREAS, Denice has received many accolades over the years by former supervisors and co-workers for her dedication to the District, excellent work products, and stellar work ethic; and
WHEREAS, as Director of Human Resources, Denice has worked to modernize the department, tackle financial challenges with HR solutions and help employees maintain a healthy work-life balance; and
WHEREAS, Denice has been married to retired HR Manager Pete Douville for more than 20 years and is stepmother to Lauren, Emily and Alex and proud grandma of Izzy, Tessa, James and Aria; and
WHEREAS, Denice and Pete are passionate about their volunteer work in support of the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Huntington’s Disease Society of America; and
WHEREAS, the couple have a second home in Albuquerque and enjoy travelling to major and minor league baseball parks around the country, sampling their cuisine; and
WHEREAS, retirement will give Denice more time to pursue her hobbies, which include designing and making quilts for family and friends (some of which have been donated as prizes for the District’s Annual Women’s History Month Program), cheering on the White Sox, listening to live jazz with Pete, and spoiling their beloved dog, Max; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby recognize Denice Korcal's dedicated service for more than thirty years to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and express our gratitude and appreciation for her work on behalf of the taxpayers of the District; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Denice Korcal.
