COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY

Mr. John P. Murray, Acting Executive Director

Title

Authority to settle the Workers’ Compensation Claim of Michael Ryan vs. MWRDGC, Claim number 24WC11900, Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC), in the sum of $96,558.44, Account 901-30000-601090

Body

Dear Sir:

Michael Ryan is an Electrical Mechanic at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. He reported that on February 17, 2023, while checking the power for the truck scale, he slipped on ice, injuring his left knee. Mr. Ryan sought treatment from his primary care provider and was diagnosed with a knee strain. On May 19, 2023, he received a cortisone injection.

Mr. Ryan continued to experience pain. On October 4, 2023, he had an MRI, which revealed a full thickness tear of his ACL and maceration of the medial meniscus.

Mr. Ryan had a Total Knee Replacement on January 12, 2024, and was off work, effective that date.  He returned to work on April 8, 2024.

Mr. Ryan was paid a total of 12.2 weeks of lost time benefits totaling $16,832.46.

Mr. Ryan filed an Application of Adjustment of Claims with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through his counsel. Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this case can now be settled for a total of $96,558.44, representing approximately 45.0% loss of use of the left leg. This settlement will close out future lost time, and medical benefits associated with this injury.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Thaddeus J. Kosowski, Director of Human Resources, TJK:BLW:DMG
